Free Concert

February 26th, 2010 by Tim Moore

I want to take a moment to let all of my readers know about a free concert this Saturday evening at Crossroads. This was not really advertised to the entire church, so consider yourself an insider if you read this.

Our worship leader, Joe Miller, will be reuniting with his old band (thehungr) to put on a little private concert. We actually use some of thehungr’s songs in our weekend experiences. Songs like Amazing, Closer Walk with Thee, and Heartcry are ones that we sing at Crossroads. If you would like to hear more of thehungr, you are invited.

The concert is free and begins around 8pm on Saturday and will probably last about an hour. This is just a concert, not a church event. So don’t expect childcare or coffee! And give them some slack, they haven’t played together in 3 years!!

It’s Dusty

February 23rd, 2010 by Tim Moore

As many of you know, we have been in the middle of a construction project to add a youth facility to our building. This week began the process of connecting the two buildings. Everything is tore up right now to make way for the new foyer.

For those of you who will be attending 4th Wednesday this week, I want to apologize in advance, but also let you know that you get a sneak peak at the new expansion of the foyer! While it might be a little inconvenient, it is also exciting to see the changes.

Change is often dirty and messy. But it is necessary to move beyond where you are to where God is leading you. Embrace the dust!

When God is with you…

February 19th, 2010 by Tim Moore

I have been so busy for the past 2 days that I realized I forgot to let all of you know the results of our Variance Request. I must admit when the mayor came to see us personally and said there was some opposition, I got a little concerned. But then God reminded me that next morning in my devotion time that He is with us and that nothing can stop Him from building His church.

We showed up at the variance meeting and guess what…no one showed up to oppose us. I guess you could say that God silenced the opposition. The variance passed unanimously!! To me yet another open door for us to walk through. We do have a 2 week waiting period when someone can formally write in to oppose and it can hinder the process. But I’m not worried…because God is with us.

No matter what challenge you might be facing, when you know that God is with you, it changes everything. Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death…we don’t have to fear because God is with you. (Ps. 23)

God is so good! Now we pray that God will provide all the finances we need to move forward with the next step of our expansion! But even in that…I know that God is with us!

Today is V-Day

February 16th, 2010 by Tim Moore

As many of you know, we are looking to expand our auditorium to double our seating capacity. We have found out that we can do it at a very low cost and we feel that this is the next step for our church to be able to continue to help people get on the path to God.

Today we meet with the community leaders to request another variance for expanding our auditorium. We had to get a variance for the last expansion project we did. We had no problems and the council voted unanimously in favor for us. However, we have been told that we have some people opposing our current expansion. This is not a slam dunk as we hoped it might be.

Here’s what I know. The enemy doesn’t want us to continue to grow. He will use any means necessary to keep us from moving forward! But I also know that Jesus said He would build his church and the gates of hell would not stop it (Matt 16:18).

As I was praying for this variance today, the verse at the bottom of my journal was Isaiah 41:13. I grabbed hold of that and verse and I do believe that God will be with us.

I ask all CC’ers to pray for the variance meeting tonight and God’s favor!

Sunday Surprise

February 12th, 2010 by Tim Moore

This Sunday is going to be incredible! I will be unleashing the truth about authority issues in marriage.

Some wives with control issues might get offended…
Some husbands with control issues might get offended…
Some single folks might get scared of marriage…
We are making a big announcement regarding our Experience Times.

And there is a rumor floating around that I might be singing a special song. I cannot confirm or deny this. You’ll have to come to find out.

It’s not a competition

February 11th, 2010 by Tim Moore

Today I met with some local area pastors who are all about my age leading great churches. We try to connect every month or two.

There is something very cool about our group. None of us feel like we are competing with each other. In fact we joke about how many people attend one church and then land in another.

What makes this group of pastors so unique is that everyone is more focused on building the Church than they are their own church. We celebrate growth and accomplishments together and offer advice and support during the challenging times.

I am truly honored and privileged to link arms with these guys. It is so refreshing to see the what God is doing through the next generation of leaders in our area.

To me church is not a competition. It’s not about trying to get more people in our “fold” than the church down the street. Instead, I believe God has called us to complement each other and in so doing together His Church and Kingdom grow!!

Is it a blessing, burden or both?

February 9th, 2010 by Tim Moore

This morning I was thinking about the “white death” that was beginning to fall. Although we might want it to miss us, there is nothing we can do about it. You can complain about the snow storm all day long, but it’s here! A thought hit me this morning about the many things that happen to us in life that we can’t control.

In everything that happens to us we can see a burden or find a blessing.

The snow might seem like a burden to you. It means more back-breaking work with the shovel. It means a higher risk on the roads. It means cold weather is here.

But isn’t it amazing how that same burden also brings a blessing.

My kids don’t have school today. They were jumping up and down cheering because of the snow. Last weekend I got to ride a 4 wheeler around our snow covered neighborhood…which was a blast. The landscape looks more beautiful than at any time of the year…IMO.

Consider that behind whatever snow storm you are facing in life…you might actually find a blessing. I bet it’s there!

Authority at home!

February 8th, 2010 by Tim Moore

This weekend we are going to be talking about authority in the home and especially in the marriage relationship. I can’t wait for this weekend. It might create some really uncomfortable moments for husbands and wives.

My hope is that both husbands and wives will realize that God’s role for authority in a marriage is for the protection and peace of a home.

If you want to get a jump start…read Ephesians 5:22-25

Delegate Don’t Relegate

February 5th, 2010 by Tim Moore

Another lesson I learned at C3 about Delegation was that we must “Delegate not Relegate”.

Relegate means to send or cosign to an inferior position. We can’t just throw something we don’t want to do “away” to someone else and forget about it. Good leaders don’t just dump on people and walk away.

Delegation includes inspection and inquiry. We must show people that we even though we have delegated something important, we are still invested in them.

Don’t just dump and leave. Inspect, Inquire and Invest in those you delegate authority.

Inspection is Key

February 4th, 2010 by Tim Moore

I’ll never forget the words that Ed Young spoke when at the C3 conference years ago. He had this to say about delegation:

“You must INSPECT what you EXPECT”

I remember a story Ed told about how he INSPECTED what he put in place. They set up new guidelines for follow-up in the church for first time visitors. The volunteers and staff were to call them within a short period of time. To make sure they were doing it, Ed setup a fake answering machine on an unidentified phone number and he turned in a visitor card. He left a fake greeting and wanted to see if the follow-up process was being followed. INSPECTION!

Get this, you can’t just delegate to someone and pass on your expectations for them and never INSPECT what they are doing. How will you know if the organization is being run the way you want? How will you know if things are falling through the cracks. How will you know if your vision is being followed?

I told our staff a few weeks ago that I wasn’t going to stand for “small church” thinking when it came to our facilities, print material, decor or anything else (no offense to small churches, but often the quality is not there). If we want to be a church of the next level, we must act like it. So I laid out some expectations. Every Sunday when I arrive at the church, I walk around and look for things that are out of place or should not be out. I inspect the kids rooms to see if they are clean and put together. I inspect the bathrooms to see if the trash is emptied. If I see something, I address it and make a note of it. It will come up in our next staff meeting!

Whatever you delegate, you must inspect. That becomes your role as you delegate.
