What’s the biggest commitment you’ve ever made? One could argue that getting married might be the biggest commitment you’ve made. Perhaps it was the day you walked into the enlistment office and signed up for the military. Another great case can be made for the day your child was born.
To me, commitment is none of those things. Commitment is not saying you will do something or even signing your life away to the government. Anyone can get a divorce, become AWOL or be an absent father or mother. Commitment is seeing something through to the end. It’s saying you’ll do something then actually doing it!
What have you committed to do lately that you haven’t followed through on yet?

If we aren’t willing to take the next step then we will never get to the next level in life. Do you ever think about what your next step should be? Maybe it is to go back to school or to find another job. Maybe it is to mend a broken relationship. Whatever it is, are you willing to take it?
What’s the next step for you in your faith? Maybe it is to get water baptized. Perhaps you’ve thought about it, but never taken the plunge (pardon the pun). Maybe your next step is to get involved in a church and start serving rather than always being served. Or perhaps God is calling you to step out in faith and serve God in full time ministry.
I have always loved this quote, “If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get the same results.” If you want to go higher or want to see different results you have to take the next step.
What’s your next step?

I am working on a series called “Steps”. I’ve been mulling over this concept that in order for us to move upward in life we have to take steps. If you want to get higher than where you are, you have to be willing to take the steps necessary to get there. It doesn’t matter what you are reaching for – your career, your financial security or even following God.
I was thinking about some of the funny phrases I used to hear that had the word step in it. Two that I remember were “you better step” (threatening words of someone wanting to start a fight) and “step off my grille” (get out of my face before I smack you). Brings back memories…
Can you remember any great phrases from your youth?

If you are like me, you like to have everything planned out. But I have quickly found that when we really follow Jesus Christ and are willing to do whatever he wants, that we can’t live like that. Instead we have to live day by day and learn to trust Him to make it happen. It’s called “faith”. We throw that term around so easily today. We can say we have faith in God, but until it is tested, it is only talk.
Our church recently purchased a building and 21 acres on faith. For our size church, it is a big step of faith and a huge risk. I had no idea where to get all the money we needed to even buy the property. But I also felt like it was ours. I have to give God the credit because we were able to purchase it and we have now entered a new phase of needing to renovate the space. Here we are again, not sure how or where the resources will come from to help us meet this challenge. It’s like we face one faith challenge and when we get through that one, there is another one waiting for us.
Any time we are called to act in faith it is going to take risk. If we are only willing to risk a little, I believe we will only see a little in return. I love the quote, “the greater the risk the greater the reward”. For me, following Jesus Christ is an all or nothing venture. I am willing to risk everything and go belly up than to stay comfortable and do nothing significant for Him.
How about you? What are you willing to risk for serving God? Your dignity, your money, your comfort?

I haven’t posted in quite some time. Life was crazy trying to get ready for vacation and well…I’m on vacation. I’ve really been enjoying this time off. We are in North Myrtle Beach and lovin’ it. This is one of my favorite places to vacation. It is so relaxing here. We are right on the beach and the weather is awesome!
Almost every morning we get up and head to the beach or pools. The waves are small but still fun to ride. We are vacationing with several good friends and family. It’s been great for us and the kids.
I’ll try to take some time to do a video blog so you can enjoy the beach a little with me.
Here are a couple pics from the beach!
