Counting Down

May 30th, 2008 by Tim Moore

Like me, I’m sure many of you are ready for the summer. My daughter has been counting down the days until her summer break begins. When you think of summer, you think of vacation, pools and having fun. I think we should all take time this year to enjoy the summer.

That is easier said that done for most of us workaholics. Usually, when I attend vacation with the family but still have work on the mind. As a pastor, it is almost impossible to separate yourself from the ministry. But this year, I am so excited about vacation. In just a week, I will be on the road to the beach. I am tired, drained and need this break.

When you start dreading your work or even serving God, those are tell-tale signs that you might need a break (or an attitude change, but that’s another topic). I have been on full tilt for the past 6 months with almost no break at all. And like my daughter I have been counting down the days to our summer vacation.

Are you drained and in need of a refill? Make sure you take some time this summer to refresh, renew and rejuvenate your mind, body and spirit!

Keeping record

May 23rd, 2008 by Tim Moore

About a year and a half ago I started journaling many of my prayers.  I do this for a couple reasons.  I have many times heard better from God while journaling.  But another reason why I like to write down my thoughts and prayers to God is that it keeps a record of what is going on and what I am praying for.  It allows me to go back and see what I prayed for and how God answered it.

Just yesterday we signed the papers for our new church home.  We bought an existing church building with 21 acres in a great location.  As I was writing in my journal yesterday, I remembered how many times I had prayed about this property and told God, “If this is going to happen, You are going to have to do something.”  I knew that we couldn’t do this on our own.  As I thought about how many times I wrote this and went back and saw my prayers from even 6 months ago, it really made me realize how awesome God is and how this is all His doing and not mine.

So consider recording what your prayers are so you can look back and see how God answers your prayers.

My golfing adventures

May 11th, 2008 by Tim Moore

I woke up early Friday morning to the sound of drizzle outside. It was still pouring outside as I gathered my things to head to the course. I arrive around 7:15am not sure if they would even let me get started. It had rained all day Thursday and overnight and I was concerned the course might be a little under water.

I was surprised when I was told I could get started and that the I could drive the cart anywhere on the course. I wasn’t looking forward to playing in the rain, but the weather turned out to be perfect. After a light rain for the first 9 holes, it dried up and was extremely comfortable all day.

Believe it or not, but I somewhat enjoyed playing all day. I was worried that my back might start hurting from all the swinging, but it held up quite fine. What did hurt was my arms, especially my forearms. I simply played through the pain. After a while I felt like a machine; mentally I was set to play as long as needed.

I finally decided to call it quits after 83 holes. I took some video and we will try to make a short video to recap the day. Is was a good experience and I raised over $1900 for our church. I was glad to do my part to help us buy this church property. Thanks to everyone who pledged their support. It means a lot to me and for our church.

I am preparing for my golf-a-thon this Friday.  I have begun intense training (hehe) for my all day golf event.  I will be at the Links Golf Course in Groverport.  If you wish to stop by while I’m playing, look for me on the course.  Thanks to those who have already pledged.  If you still want to be part of this, please submit your pledge online here.

Now…back to my mental training.

You can do it…  You’re the man…  It’s all in a day’s work…  Under par…  Under par…  Okay, bogey golf…
